Atreyu ~ The Curse

Okay before I actually start this review I have something I have to confess...I've seen Atreyu 6 or 7 times live. However, I have only heard 3 songs of theirs in recorded form before listening to this CD.

So I put "The Curse" in my handy dandy disc man half expecting them to sound exactly how they do live. What I got was much better! Granted the opening track "Blood Children" did kind of remind me of something Marilyn Manson would do, but I'm all about Manson so that was cool. The Manson air was blown away once "Bleeding Mascara" had it's say. Pure Atreyu. The rest of the CD follows in suite a unique sound that blends melody, hardcore and metal to perfection. Personal favorite tracks are "Bleeding Mascara" [with such an awesome title and a song to match, how can you not love it?], "The Crimson" [which has strong vampiric elements \m/] and the first single off the album "The Right side of the Bed" which has the tendency to get stuck in my head every time I hear even a few seconds of it. Definitely buy this record and check out these boys live, they put on a hell of a show!

Review by Lindsay Day

Atreyu’s latest album, The Curse, was well worth the wait. This CD proves that a band has the potential of only getting better with time. With songs such as Nevada’s Grace and Remembrance Ballad, their album allows the listener a more personal glimpse into the lives of the band. Having such deep, poetic lyrics based on their past experiences, one will find it hard not being able to find one or more songs to relate to. The Curse provides the perfect combination of strong vocals with excellent guitar/bass playing and powerful drumming; nothing is overshadowed. Each song is just pure lucid harmony. With such immense talent and unique sound, Atreyu is always a band to go the extra step to make their music that much better. I definitely recommend this album to others. Whether you are a die-hard Atreyu fan or not, I am positive that all of you will fully enjoy this CD.
