FINGER ELEVEN- THEM VS. YOU VS. ME

I have to say that this release is they best thing I have heard in ages. Finger Eleven's "Them Vs. You Vs. Me" from Wind Up Records will stronghold you into a headlock that makes you move whether you want to or not. If you like bands like "Franz Ferdinand", "Modest Mouse" or even bands like "Three Days Grace" this cd will captivate you. The first track "Paralyze" is a funky upbeat song that gripped me with vocalist Scott Anderson's delivery of the chorus. I sat there picking my brain...Who they hell does he sound like? I finally nabbed it and realized it was David Draiman from "Disturbed."

Finger Eleven can not be classified into any specific musical genre, every song has a different sound whether it be a 60's inspired song or a funky sounding dance song. I read that many of the tunes were written by exchanging files over the internet and some songs were recorded at least four more times over the period of a year and a half. The cd was thrown together in 3 brisk months at the studio. Another outrageously cool thing the band did was set up a skype phone while in the studio where fans could call in with suggestions or just to shoot the shit with the guys.

While in the studio recording Finger Eleven ironically became insanely addicted to the game "Guitar Hero," while consuming just about thirty liters of Vodka and a 30 pack of old style each day. The thick bass in the song "Falling on" showers thru to reach out deliciously and tweak your awaiting eardrums. Instruments like the flute, keyboards, violin, banjo, and the almost obsolete xylophone are there waiting beyond the obvious drums beats and guitar chords like a hidden added bonus.

Despite the rotten luck of having their trailer thieved about half-way thru the album making process or being forced to cope with the five of them snoring on cots in the room next to the studio "Finger Eleven" have managed to put forth some divine tasty treats on their cd's musical menu. Be sure and check out the groups website since they have just added some extra dates on their tour with "Evanescence," "Strata" and one of my own preferred poisons "Chevelle."
