The Jonas Boys are from NJ and with me being from Jersey as well, I had to ask them, just how much they enjoyed the Garden State. As I sat on this little couch after their soundcheck conducting this interview, I couldn't help thinking just how adorable and sweet these guys were. Pull up a chair, grab a soda and check out just how incredible these boys are!
KEVIN: Where are you from?
KRISTIN: I am from Thorofare, near West Deptford, or the Cherry Hill area.
KEVIN: ok
KRISTIN: Now you guys are from Wyckoff NJ. What do you love or hate about NJ?
KEVIN: I like the seasons. there's change unlike in other parts of the US. There is change, theres growth.
JOSEPH: I really love the fall. All the colors change on the leaves in the trees, just the way the leaves change.
KEVIN- yeah, the leaves changing, bad would be smog, or it's stinky.
NICK- No IN & OUT burger.
KRISTIN: Laughs, I was at a show the other night and they said that NJ is the armpit of America-
KEVIN: We are from Newark so so....
JOSEPH: Driving in Newark all you see is the factorys and smog. You know it's not really good.
KRISTIN: Describe the members in the band with one word.
JOSEPH: Kevin is hyper. Nick is focased.
NICK: Joseph is the rockstar.Like Elvis.
KRISTIN: Can you describe your music in one word?
KEVIN: High energy, but that's two words
KRISTIN: That's good though.
NICK- Fun!
JOSEPH: Yeah, fun
NICK: Positive.
KRISTIN: Where do you feel The Jonas Brothers music fits into the pop music world at the moment?
KEVIN: I feel that it um, is one of the few- there's not alot of positive teen acts out there right now. We've really given it a rock and roll format...as to where we like to rock out.
KRISTIN: What or whom influences you musically?
NICK: Stevie Wonder, Osmonds,Jackson Five, Switchfoot
KEVIN: John Mayer, Switchfoot....
(The sound test upstairs muted Joseph's answer)
KRISTIN: If you were stranded on a deserted Island and could only bring one CD, what would it be?
NICK- Stevie Wonders album "Pre-recorded Live: 12 Year Old Genius"
KEVIN: Ok Computer by Radiohead.
JOSEPH: A CD about how to survive living on a deserted Island.
KRISTIN: Laughs. That's a smart answer. There you go. You recently toured with Click 5, The Backstreet Boys, and Jesse McCartney- What was that like?
ALL THREE: It was awesome!
KEVIN- It was awesome. It was just , we would go from one city to the next everydayand we would never like...well maybe sleep overnight. But your always traveling- It's so much fun. We got to see alot of the US that we've never seen before you know living in NJ.
JOSEPH- I mean, usually we live in NJ so we haven't actually seen alot of the US. Now we've seen everything and um we got to spend alot of time with-
ALL THREE: Jesse.
JOSEPH- We met the Backstreet Boys but we hung out with Jesse alot. Jesse played cards with us in our dressing room.
KRISTIN: So he's a decent guy ?
KEVIN: Exactly! Very nice. On Tour there were alot of girls.
KRISTIN: Speaking of girls, do you guys get mobbed?
KEVIN: Nick was backstage after a show and the doors just burst open and they, like 30 girls just rushed him and were grabbing him and hugging him- we were freaking out, we didn't know what to do. We had no security.
KRISTIN: You better get used to it huh.
JOSEPH :Definately
KRISTIN: How does it feel to have your fans come up to you telling you how much they can relate to your songs?
KEVIN: It's encouraging to know that people understand what we're talking about, what we're hoping to transpire in out music.
KRISTIN: Alright, Who did commercials?
ALL THREE: All of us.
KRISTIN: What do you enjoy more acting or singing?
JOSEPH: I think music, music it's our own. We don't have to answer to anyone else. You kinda get to do like what we want to do you know like writing a song to being onstage or how you act onstage. People are telling us how to play our instruments but I mean it's our own. You have to put yourself in the role rather than just being yourself onstage. You know how can i act onstage? What can i say- just you know have a conversation with the crowd.
KEVIN: Yeah
KRISTIN: When the three of you were signed did you do anything special to celebrate?
NICK: What we did was have pizza, ice cream, anything dairy.
KEVIN: Because we can't really eat anything dairy. It coats the vocal cords. So every single time we finish a song or a big show we go out and get ice cream. We just did a show at BB kings on 42nd Street in NY, and after that show which was a big show for MTV we all went over to the Cold Stone next door.
KRISTIN: Is that where they put the ice cream-
KEVIN: Yeah you put it all together, everything you want. It was really cool.
KRISTIN: How do you prepare for shows? Any rituals?
JOSEPH- We like to- I don't know why but me and the drummer always do twenty push ups before we go on stage to get our energy going. We've done it from the first show and haven't stopped.
KEVIN: I just pace around, I'm not nervous it's just like I just walk and I don't stop until I walk onto that stage.
JOSEPH- Sometime's we 'll just be goofing around you know Sometimes we'll walk onstage really serious and at other times laughing.
KRISTIN- Do you have a new album coming out?
KEVIN: Yes! Out first album. It comes out sometime in the new year, we're really excited about it. It's called "It's about time.
KRISTIN: What does the future have in store for the Jonas Brothers?
NICK: Um we have concerts in bars, arenas, cow pastures, everywhere. We've always talked about making a production team you know to help out other artists- for writing songs, singing.
KRISTIN: Is there anything you'd like to say to your fans?
NICK: They're the best.
KEVIN: Yeah they are the best. I mean on this tour so far....
JOSEPH: We've done shows like you know days in a row in like NJ or anywhere we are and people go we just saw you last night and can't wait to see you again. Which is really cool.
KRISTIN: That's great. That's all I have for you guys - Thanks alot and it was nice meeting you.
(I shook hands with all three then exited.)
