I was Psyched, This would be my first time seeing Anthrax and I was so excited. I can’t tell you how many countless weekend nights I stayed up watching Headbangers Ball on MTV hoping to catch a video from them.
After they collaborated with Public Enemy on “Bring the Noise”, that video had constant rotation so I knew if I stayed up the full three hours I’d eventually catch something by them.
I had an interview with Joey Belladonna at 6:oo p.m. and I was nervous. To me, Anthrax really are a musical icon. They’ve been around for twenty years and have survived the Music industry without changing or as some fans state “selling out”
After my interview we hung out around the casino waiting for the show. As we walked in the event center I noticed how nice it was and there were seats. There were signs everywhere saying “NO MOSHING” I guess they weren’t taking a chance with these two Metal Legends in the house.
The anticipation was killing me but the lights finally faded and the crowd went wild. I think I might have been jumping up and down by this point. Scott Ian, Charlie Benz, Danny Spitz, and Frank Bello came out followed by
Joey Belladonna. Frank Bello is a madman on bass, he starts moving before the music even starts and does not stop until he leaves that stage. He works the crowd but seems to go into his own little world at times allowing the energy of the music and crowd engulf him and take him over.
I think, honestly it was one of the best shows I’ve seen in awhile. Every single member of the band was so amped from playing, and the crowd was even more. I looked around at the audience and watched as people screamed the lyrics to the songs at the top of their lungs and banged their heads in unison with the music. The three songs that seemed to work the crowd into a frenzy was “Antisocial, I am the Law, and Indians.“ I can’t wait till they come back headlining their own tour because my ass will be there with my fist in the air!
